As part of our community service initiative, Maco & Associates participates in the IRS VITA/TCE program, with our particular emphasis on Tax Counseling for the Elderly. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program or the Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program offers free tax help if you qualify (income below $49,000 per year). All of Maco & Associates staff members are certified by the IRS and participate in the program.
The Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program provides free tax help to people aged 60 and older. Certified volunteers from our organization provide free tax counseling and basic income tax return preparation for senior citizens. There is no charge for this service, nor is there a charge for the VITA returns we prepare.
As part of the IRS-sponsored TCE Program, Maco & Associates offers a Tax-Aide Counseling Program throughout the year to help low-to-middle income individuals, with special attention to those aged 60 and older. Our emphasis is on recapturing PA Property Tax and Rent Rebates for those who are over 62. This is not part of the normal tax process, but is a benefit that many of the elderly are not aware of, and we want to assist them in recapturing some of their real estate taxes.
We provide a one-day clinic in our office for drop-in participants and will assist those throughout the year as we are able. We feel particularly lucky that all of our staff members are committed to this endeavor and to giving back to the community.
